Chilean photographer Tomas Munita has won the prestigious Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2006 with his photo report ‘Kabul - Leaving the Shadows'. The title ‘Leaving the Shadows‘ is fitting for two reasons: it alludes to both the form - the concentration on twilight moods and the content - a description of the living situation of the Afghan population.

The photographs of the reporter, who was born in Santiago de Chile in 1975, show peaceful and joyful moments of a gradually emerging normality rather than the violence and poverty one might expect. In comparison, the ruins, war damage or remains of ammunition in some of the pictures seem to be of minor importance, although they form a strong contrast that is not only visual. In failing daylight or the semi-darkness of the interiors, light and shade fight for predominance and give the colors in the photos a special intensity. Both contrasts of the interplay of light and shade - metaphorical and actual - make the photos a particularly accurate description of the relationship of man and his environment, which is the subject of the competition held by the Leica Camera Group as part of its culture program. The report is a result of Munita's long-term work as a press photographer for The Associated Press news agency in Afghanistan.

An honorable mention in the Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2006 went to the American James Whitlow Delano. In his personal long-term project "Japan Mangaland", the photographer takes a critical look at the country he lives in.

Elliott Erwitt作为马格南图片社的成员，拍摄了许多当代的文献记录摄影。比如，他拍摄了政治家尼克松和赫鲁晓夫1959年在莫斯科国际工业展览会上的辩论照片，因而获得了世界性的声誉。 这些照片经常被人理解为两个超级大国之间冲突的象征，但实际上反映的是两位领导人围绕着农产品的质量而开展的口水战和姿态战。

Elliott Erwitt的作品在既反映严肃话题、又服务于娱乐目的这两方面都做得很成功。他的摄影作品抓拍了日常生活中的巧合事件和滑稽场面它们容易使人们看到人类的荒唐之处而哑然失笑，但又不使得被嘲笑的对象显得过于荒谬。

我们每个人都多少有些业余爱好，爱好摄影使我们来到这个网站。在我们周围有很多优秀的业余摄影师，所谓“业余摄影师”是指他们不靠摄影吃饭，而是在从事自己的专业的同时爱好摄影这门艺术。。。。

有人曾和我谈起过这位和德国诗人Friedrich Schiller 同名，同性的 奥地利业余 " Street Photography specialist “  , 我也曾经看过他的那种简单而很有内涵的作品，尤其是他以主题“都市里的人”的作品非常有影响。  他用的设备很简单，M 机身，21mm, 40mm，是他随身设备，特殊情况用一台很旧的 Rolleiflex 6X6。他说：“我只是位摄影爱好者，这样的设备已经很好了。要想拍出你满意的底片来，重要的是相机后面的人！

Friedlrch Schiller 有很敏锐的观察力，看到的同时，他相机里的底片也暴光了。他几乎永远是用目测光，测距。

I bought my fist camera, a Russian Lomo LC-A, in 1997 and for three years photographed very intensively with it. After a brake from photography – I was more into CGI back then – a Yashica Electro 35 GTN crossed my path and I was in awe, mostly because of the high speed lens and the rangefinder. Following the Yashica GTN I bought a Bessa-R and two screw mount leicas (a IIIa and a Leica Standard) and after a short period with a classical M3 I got my Leica M6.

Interview:

Why did you purchase a Leica M so soon ?

I always wanted a reliable camera, battery independent and small enough to take it everywhere. Since the only Camera I owned previously had a simple viewfinder, I was more comfortable with a rangefinder than SLR?s and the Bessa-R convinced me of that. After reading a lot about rangefinders on the net I finally made the decision to look out for a Leica M as those were said to be the toughest and best build of them all. As soon as I held my first M I was in love, the Leica is a simple, reinforced and precise machine and ever since I got my M6 it is going everywhere with me.

Why is people photography your main interest?

My first contact with the genre was just 2 years ago and I still stumble over new photographers and styles which all are very inspiring to me. For me, the most interesting part of doing this style of shooting is, that you never know what you will get in front of your lens. This unpredictability is what keeps the tension high and my interest in street photography burning, it fascinates me to photograph people in every day scenes and to capture interesting emotions, faces or compositions of light.

If your pictures become famous, would you rather stay an amateur or would you become a pro photographer?

My motivation and joy in  photography depends on my absolute freedom to do what I want and how I want to. I really can not imagine to photograph for someone else but myself and think I would be happier to stay amateur. Since I learned everything by trial and error I feel I still have a long way to go to perfect my craft and to learn all the possibilities the medium film and photography as a whole provide.

Do you struggle between digital and analogue photography?

No, I enjoy film and the whole process connected to it much more than digital photography. The convenience digital capture offers truly is nice and in terms of picture quality the modern DSLR?s are really good, but since I don?t need my pictures that fast and the simple fact that I enjoy all this different characters and styles of the many films available, I see no reason to make the switch.
I?m often  scanning my negs so I can have all the merits of photoshop and the digital darkroom too but if I completely switch to digital , I surely would miss the wet-darkroom and it?s atmosphere too much!

2005到2006年间从事自由职业于计算机生成建筑职业

1997年我拥有了自己的第一台相机,俄罗斯生产的LCA LOMO并享受了3年酣畅淋漓的摄影生活.有一段时间我的摄影技术停滞不前,这段时间我更多的是使用YASHICA ELCTRO 35 GTN,但后来我却对其敬而远之,纠其原因,可能是它的高速镜头和取景所导致的.在这之后,我又购入了一台BESSA-R和LEICA IIIA,LEICA ATANDARD两部罗口机.之后的日子,在短暂的使用了M3之后,我拥有了我的LEICA M6.


采访部分:

Heifetz :为什么你那么快就购买了LEICA M ?

FS:我一直以来都在寻找一部可靠的相机,它不依赖电池并且小到能让我随身携带.可能是自从我有了我唯一的相机后,我发现它的取景器比单反的更加舒服吧.之后的BESSA-R让我更加坚定了这点.在阅读了大量网上有关于取景器的资料后,我最终下定决心去弄部LEICA M.因为它的取景器是最明亮,做工最出色的.在我拿起我的第一部M机的那一瞬间,我就爱上了它,它的操作是那么的简单,精确,出色.自从我拥有了M6后,它从来都没离开过我.

Heifetz :为什么你对人物摄影最感兴趣?

FS:我是在两年前才开始对这个题材感兴趣的.一些新兴的摄影师和摄影形式对我的影响和促进是很大的.对我来讲,这类型的摄影最大的魅力就在于你永远都无法猜测你的镜头前将会出现什么.这种不可预知性另我把高度的热情和注意力放在了街道上.它吸引着我去拍摄街上行人每天不同的情景,捕捉他们脸上的表情又或者是光线的组合构成.

Heifetz :如果你的作品出名了,那么你是情愿继续做一个业余爱好者还是会成为一名专业的摄影师呢?

FS:我摄影的动力和乐趣来自于我绝对自由的创作以及方式.我无法想象去为别人而不是我自己摄影.我想,作为一个摄影业余爱好者我会更加快乐吧.正如我所进行的不断尝试与失败,我觉得我所要走的路还很长,我还要不断地完善我的摄影技术并去不断学习数码影象所带来的无限可能性.

Heifetz :你是否会在数码以及传统摄影中感到纠结?

FS:不!相比之下,我更享受胶片所带给我的一切,拍摄的过程等等等等.现代的数码单反的却给我门带来了太多的便利以及高品质的影象,但是我并不需要那么高的拍摄速度,还有一非常简单的原因是我真的觉得不同尺寸和风格的胶卷很过瘾,这是没办法改变的啦.我也经常把我的相片扫描的电脑里面电子暗房一下.但是如果我完全转变,那么我想我将会失去传统暗房的那份气氛和FEEL.

毕加索 ：“ 用照相机写诗 的人。。。。”

昨天终于用了近几个小时的时间欣赏了久闻大名的法国摄影师 Lucien Clergue 在维也纳作品展！（门票11欧元，狗（满3个月 免票！ ）结果是 ：我还要找时间去几趟。。。

LUCIEN CLERQUE

From the age of 7, Lucien Clergue learnt to play the violin. Several years later, his teacher revealed to him that he had nothing more to teach him. From a family of modest shopkeepers, he could not pursue further studies in Conservatory. In 1949, he learns the rudiments of photography. Four years later, at a corrida in Arles, he forces destiny by showing his photos to Pablo Picasso, who is subdued and demands to see others. During one and a half year, young Clergue works with the goal of sending photos to Picasso. It’s during this period that he works on his series of photographs of traveling entertainers,  acrobats and arlequins, the 《 Saltimbanques 》. He also works in parallel on a series whose subject is carrion.
The 4th of November 1955, Lucien Clergue goes to Picasso’s in  Cannes who receives him with open arms. Their friendship will last near thirty years, up to the death of the Master. The book, “Picasso my friend” retraces the important moments of their relation.
Clergue has taken many photographs of the gypsies of souther France, and was instrumental in propelling the guitarist  Manitas de Plata to fame.
In 1968 he founded, along with his friend Michel Tournier the Rencontres d?Arles  photography festival which is held in Arles  in July.
Clergue has illustrated books, among these a book by writer Yves Navarre.
In 2007, the city of Arles honored Lucien Clergue and dedicates a retrospective collection of 360 of his photographs dating from 1953 to 2007. He also received the 2007 Lucie Award .
He is named knight of the Légion d?honneur in 2003 and elected member of the Academy of Fine Arts of the Institute of Franc on the 31 May,  2006 , on the creation of a new section consecrated to photography. So, Clergue is the first photographer to enter the Academy to a seat devoted to photography.

Jose Cendon是一名来自西班牙西北部的（Santiago de Compostela）摄影师，作为一名专职摄影师，他已经在非洲工作多年。此次获得Oskar Banack 2007提名的作品《非洲的疯人院》拍摄自三个非洲国家——Ruanda（卢旺达）、Burundi（布隆迪）以及Congo（刚果）的多家精神病院。

这名32岁的摄影师在拍摄中对精神、色彩、距离的处理十分娴熟，以深刻得让人痛心的画面反映了非洲多年内战对人们心灵的巨大伤害。

这是一组，你很少见到的拍摄作品。

Steve McCurry，如果说，这个名字对你依旧十分陌生，那么，下面这幅《阿富汗的少女》也许会让想起一些什么——上世纪《国家地理》最有名的作品，其实便来自Magnum的Steve McCurry。

Steve McCurry 1986年加入Magnum，在过去20年中，这名Magnum摄影师游历世界各国，记录着这个星球上不同国家，不同民族，不同信仰的人们的生活，这也给了Steve McCurry极佳的机会完成自己的肖像摄影画册——《阿富汗少女》只是Steve McCurry重多肖像作品中的一幅。

Steve McCurry肖像拍摄Tips：

Steve McCurry喜欢将被摄者安排在室内、屋檐下、矮墙后等背阴处，让对方面朝门、窗等光源处，睁大眼睛静静地看着镜头。此时，STEVE总是在他的尼康相机上拧上一支85mmF1.4大光圈人像镜头，装上柯达反转片，支上三脚架，一边与对方聊天，一边不断地手动对焦并迅速地按下快门。

除此之外，Steve McCurry会让对方抬起头看着镜头，略微俯拍，此时天空就形成了一个巨大的光源箱，映在对方眼睛上构成了漂亮的眼神光。

Steve McCurry自己的官方网站上有不少作品，搭配英文的拍摄日记，内容详实。推荐。

按照惯例，玛格南每年年会都会拍摄一张集体照，还有若干摄影师自己的留念照片，Peter Marlow近日在Blog里展示了今年在伦敦拍摄的玛格南成员照片们，有趣的是，和Erwitt一样，Peter也是一个不折不扣的胶片执著者，当然，还有一个很明显的原因——在6×6画幅，数码无论在任一方面都无法取代胶片

1982年6月24日，我第一次作为玛格南正式成员参加巴黎举行的玛格南年会——每年，玛格南成员都会聚集在纽约、巴黎或伦敦之一的办事处，讨论新一年计划，切磋交流过去一年的拍摄体验，互相展示作品，当然，还有吵架戏谑。

当我第一次参加年会时，桌前坐着20世纪最著名的一批摄影记者，桌子上则摆着各自的Leica相机，大家一边讨论，一边互相拍照片。

当时我心里忐忑不安，好不容易才鼓起勇气举起相机，当然，从那以后，每次年会我都不会放弃按下快门的机会，这也成为了玛格南的传统。比如，Rene Burri负责拍最重要的集体照——拍集体照非常有趣，因为Rene每次都要在按下快门后全速冲入我们的行列，赶在快门自拍设定时间前站好——这不是一件容易的事儿。

每次会场的布光都让我十分不满，因此，在我成为玛格南伦敦主席的1991年，搭设了两个巨大的电影灯——那也是玛格南历史上布光最出色的一次年会，只可惜在第三天这套灯具就被粗心的Philip Jones Griffiths搞砸了。

下面这些照片拍摄于2007年6月，在纽约的Milk Studios，我们进行了4天的激烈讨论，所有照片都是用胶片和一台6×6 Mamiya相机拍摄。
